Fayston, Vermont - Vermont State Police say they are investigating a mysterious death at a ski mountain.
So far they haven't said who the man is or how he died. But they have confirmed the unusual place they found him at the Mad River Glen Ski Area.
The discovery of the man was made as staff opened the ski area Thursday morning.
"One of our employees came to my office and notified me that he thought we had a body," says Jamey Wimble, Mad River's general manager.
Wimble says that employee found a dead man inside a building that houses the ski patrol and repair shop. Soon after they called police to the ski area.
"Then, you know, just a big sadness obviously right off the bat that, you know, someone had lost their life," says Wimble.
Police say the man appeared to have tried to go from the ski patrol office to the repair side when he got stuck in an air vent.
"It's just kind of a wooden opening that's kind of like an air duct that allows warm air to go from one room into the other. Why the body was there, so on, we have no idea and state police are trying to figure that out," says Wimble.
State police say the death is unusual but it appears at this point it's neither suspicious or criminal.
Wimble says he didn't see any signs of a break-in though he's not sure the outside doors were even locked. That leaves many people to wonder why the man was inside the building and how he got there.
"I assume you were also concerned this could have been one of your employees?" says FOX 44's Matt Austin.
"That could still be a question mark too," says Wimble.
Police say they will wait to release the man's name until his family is told.
The ski area opened as planned Thursday.
