National Guard Hosts Engineering Day

South Burlington, Vermont - Hundreds of Vermont students put their engineer caps on Thursday to try and build the most creative, strong and edible structures.

The "Engineers Day" took place the Vermont National Guard.

The students built cars made out of food, and bridges made out of pasta.

There were competitions to see how much weight the structures could hold.

Some of the students say they learned a lot about the field just from using household products.

"I saw really complicated bridges that were really intricately designed but were very heavy and didn't hold a lot of their weight and thus weren't the best in show and didn't win overall," said Sam Coxon.

"Through the process kind of learned by trial and error what was right and what was wrong and how to fix what we had done," said Jake Hurwitz.

This is the sixth year the national guard has hosted this event.
