Coming Back After the Fire

Posted: Updated:

Burlington, Vermont- It has been nearly five months since a fire destroyed three dental offices on Pearl Street in Burlington and now they say, they're coming back.

The building home to Associates in Periodontics was destroyed back in September and then demolished.  It had been used as a dental office for the past 40 years in Burlington.  Damages were estimated around 3.5 million dollars, but the dental offices say that is where their home is and they will do whatever it takes to get back up and running.

Dr. Brian Shuman remembers the fire like it was yesterday, "All of the second floor windows all of sudden went poof."

He was able to save some mementos after the fire like his telescopic glasses that used to be his father's pair, "I knew where these were they were right on my desk and sure enough, they were there."

With over 4,700 patients to serve, the doctors knew they needed to act fast and just months after that night, they've set up shop in South Burlington. Now with all new technology they're able to keep the practice running only losing three patients in the transition. But priority number one is coming back to the spot on Pearl Street where the doctors and staff call home.

"It's not just a building, it has meant so much more to them and it has meant so much more to the patients which is really quite astonishing," says Dr. Shuman.

The doctors hope to break ground by April 1st on the rebuilding of the new Pearl Street office.
