TMZ: Relatives Reportedly Told She Died from Prescription Drugs

Posted: Updated:

Los Angeles- Relatives of Whitney Houston have reportedly been told by coroner officials that the singer died from a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol.

TMZ, citing family sources, said coroner officials informed the family there was not enough water in the singer's lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned. Houston may well have died before her head became submerged, TMZ reported.

Whitney's aunt, Mary Jones, discovered Houston's body in the bathtub, TMZ says.

Jones had laid out Houston's dress for the evening on the bed and the left for about a half hour. When Houston didn't come out of the bathroom, Jones entered, pulling her out of the tub and began a CPR, according to TMZ.

TMZ says Houston's mom has arranged to have the singer's body flown back to Atlanta, as early as Tuesday.

The family was told the Coroner has no problem releasing the body because there is no evidence of foul play and unless cops put a hold on the body, it can be flown back east, TMZ reports.
