VT Bill Requires Amusement Ride Inspection

Posted: Updated:

Montpelier, Vermont - Did you know that the State of Vermont does not inspect amusement park rides? One Vermont State Representative wants to change that.

State Rep. Bill Lippert introduced a bill that would require amusement ride operators to provide Vermont with a certificate of inspection.

That does not mean that a Vermont official will be inspecting these rides. It means the rides must inspected 30 days before coming to Vermont. It also means these rides will not be inspected once they are set up in the State.

So, why isn't Vermont doing the legwork?

"I've been told that we do not have the resources to have a State inspection of amusement rides," Lippert said.

Not to mention, this is not the first time Lippert has introduced this bill in the last decade.

After the tragic death of a worker at the Lamoille County Field Days, who was sucked in a large fan in the amusement park, Lippert decided it is time to give his bill another shot.

"I would feel so irresponsible, if I did not bring this issue forward and try to get my colleagues to at least take a next step," Lippert said.

Right now, all Vermont requires for amusement rides to operate in the State is an insurance policy with liability up to a million dollars. Lippert also wants to increase that to $2 million.
