Burlington, Vermont - During last years winter festival in downtown Burlington there was plenty of snow to go around.

But this year, it's no where to be found, and that has left organizers racing to make last minute changes.

"Just like the snowman garden for kids to play on or our big sliding hill. We were going to have a big sliding hill down here on the waterfront and those things just won't be able to happen," said Burlington Parks & Recreation special events coordinator Nancy Bove.

Normally Lake Champlain is below freezing and for this weekends winter festival organizers would normally have to cut through the ice.

This year however participants in the polar plunge will just be able to walk right in.

Burlington isn't alone.

In Lake George, the unfrozen water is changing helicopter rides and ice races at the festival.

Also in New York, the ice palace at the Saranac Lake winter carnival is the crown jewel, but organizers say the warm weather is making it difficult to maintain.

Even though there's no snow Burlington winter fest organizers say it might be a blessing in disguise.

"But I hear that the weather is going to be beautiful so maybe we'll get lots more people to come out and join us," said Bove.
