Burlington, Vermont- A Burlington man could spend up to five years in prison, after police say they found child porn involved young kids on his computer. Monday, 46 year old Chris Duval, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The South Burlington police unit called 'Internet Crimes Against Children' was able to identify and arrest Duval who they say was sharing files of child pornography. South Burlington Police routinely check on suspicious computer activity involving child pornography and recently they say something caught their attention.
"Our detectives hit on a computer that was actively exchanging child pornography," said South Burlington Police Chief Trevor Whipple.
Investigators say that computer belonged to Duval. Police arrested Duval Monday at this home on North Avenue in Burlington. They say they found pornographic movies with kids as young as seven years old. And they say Duval admitted he downloaded the child porn. This also isn't the first time police have investigated Duval for child pornography.
"He himself admitted he had been investigated one time before," said Chief Whipple.
But Duval was never charged, until now. Duval has been ordered to stay off the Internet and away from kids under the age of 17. Police say while an arrest like this is uncommon, it's happening more than we'd like to think.
"The reality is everyday, every moment of the day we could log into a computer and find this kind of information taking place," said Whipple.
Police say Duval was living in the house with his girlfriend, and three teenage girls, including his own 14 year old daughter. Police say it'll be up to the courts to determine whether he is fit to live with them.
