Things inside the Great Harvest Bread Company in Burlington were a little different Wednesday.
The bakery known for giving away free samples gave it all away that day - every loaf, every scone, every cinnamon roll, to help Champlain Elementary's ailing library where owner Sara Brown's son goes to school.
"He would bring home these books that were as old as I am," she said.
That's why Brown decided to hold a bread for books day where students got behind the counter, and all of the money collected went into buckets.
It's the kind of gesture from a neighborhood bakery to the neighborhood that you rarely see these days, no matter how you slice it.
"I hope they realize that being part of a neighborhood and being a part of a small local business can make a difference," said Brown.Comment Agreement
